INCANDESCENT LIGHTING & ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Any conversation about lighting has to begin with the incandescent bulb.  The most commonly used source of light in homes, Incandescent Lighting and Energy Efficiency, Lighting How-To's: LightsOnline.comincandescents typically produce what experts consider to be a ‘perfect’ color of light, otherwise expressed as a ‘100’ score on the color rendering index (CRI). 

While fluorescents, LED’s, and even halogen bulbs (the latter a type of incandescent) are more energy-efficient, many consumers still prefer incandescent bulbs in their homes.  For this reason, many experts believe that incandescent lighting is not likely to disappear anytime soon.  While their energy-efficiency ratings may never be on par with other lighting sources, recent technological advances have made incandescent bulbs at least somewhat more efficient than they have been in the past.  Expect environmental pressures to result in further improvements over time as well.
